Fall Festival and Chili Cook-Off
The Annual Summerfield Fall Festival and Chili-Cook-off was a huge success this year bringing everyone together for an afternoon of fun, food and friendship. The event had something for everyone, from festive games and activities for the kids, a Happy Fall Y’all photobooth to a friendly competition of delicious chili. The event was a perfect way to celebrate the season…a howlin’ good time was had by all!!!
Summerfield and Pool Area Maintenance
Summerfield property maintenance:
- Entrance wall paint refresh was completed
- Metal railing installation between Elmfield Lane and Rios Road is in the works
- Fence repair on Firbrook Lane walkway is in the works
During this season’s pool closure, the following are scheduled for maintenance:
- Pool area paint refresh was completed
- Fence repair to be determined
In addition, in order to save money while optimizing quality of service we recently switched from our former landscaper Advanced Landscaper Management, Inc. to Ponderosa Landscape Service. The cost savings for the community is close to $250 a month… now that’s a win-win!!!
Public Service Announcement: Coyote Safety in our Community
Recently, we have received reports through social media of coyotes in our area, and unfortunately, there have been instances of small pets and children being threatened or attacked. Coyotes are most active at dawn and dusk, and they may be drawn into residential areas in search of food.
To ensure the safety of your family, pets, and neighbors, please follow these important precautions:
Pet Safety Tips:
- Keep pets indoors during early morning and late evening hours, when coyotes are most active.
- Never leave pets unattended outside, even in your yard, especially at night.
- Secure trash bins and remove any food or pet food left outside.
- Fencing: Ensure your fence is at least 6 feet high and extends below ground level to prevent coyotes from digging underneath.
- Supervise pets on walks: Always keep dogs on a leash, and avoid walking them near brushy or wooded areas.
Child Safety Tips:
- Teach children about coyotes and make sure they know to avoid interacting with wildlife.
- Supervise outdoor play: Children should be monitored, especially when playing outside in the early morning or late evening.
- Avoid walking alone in areas with heavy brush, where coyotes may be lurking.
What to Do If You See a Coyote:
- Do not approach: Coyotes are generally shy but can be aggressive if they feel cornered or threatened.
- Make noise: If you encounter a coyote, make yourself appear larger and make loud noises to scare it away. Clap your hands, shout, or bang pots together.
- Contact authorities: If you spot a coyote behaving unusually, or if you believe it poses a danger, please contact animal control or local authorities immediately.

Electric Bicycles Alert! Drive Safely!
As electric bikes (aka eBikes) become increasingly popular in our community, it’s important to address safety concerns, particularly regarding children riding them. While these bikes offer a fun and efficient mode of transportation, they can reach speeds that pose risks, especially in residential areas with pedestrians and other vehicles. We urge parents to ensure their children understand and adhere to speed limits and safety protocols. Encourage them to wear helmets, follow traffic rules, and be mindful of their surroundings. By fostering a culture of responsibility and awareness, we can help keep our neighborhood safe and enjoyable for everyone. The speed limit within our neighborhood is 25 MPH, and we have a LOT of kids at play here. We encourage all residents to observe the speed limit and drive with caution at all times. If you see a delivery driver speeding, it may be more effective to get the vehicle number and call that delivery company and report any concerns. For example, if you receive an Amazon delivery and are asked for feedback through their site, and that driver was speeding, give them that information.

Fire Season Preparedness
We hope that we do not have another wildfire like the one in 2007 that caused our neighborhood
to be evacuated— but it is fire season again, and we should all stand ready to respond if needed. We encourage everyone to subscribe to AlertSanDiego. This is the county’s “reverse 911” emergency notification system and the City of Poway’s primary resource for contacting you in an event that needs your immediate attention, such as an evacuation due to fires. All landlines are automatically a part of this database, but by registering your email address and mobile phone number, you won’t miss a notification if you’re away from home.

Are you interested in getting to know more neighbors? We have a few groups in Summerfield that you are
welcome to join. The Social Committee helps with coordinating and planning events such as the July 4th Bike Parade and BBQ and the Fall Fest. There’s also the Bunco group who meets on the 2nd Thursday of each month. Bunco is an easy-to-learn dice game that is loads of fun for all ages.
