Introducing Senior Gleaners of San Diego County

As many of you have noticed, we have plenty of fruit trees in our Summerfield neighborhood.  The HOA Board would like to share a wonderful local resource that benefits both our community and those in need:  Senior Gleaners of San Diego County.  This award-winning non-profit organization connects volunteers with the goal of harvesting fresh, healthy produce from local farms, gardens and residential crops.  The harvested food is then distributed to those facing food insecurity, especially seniors in San Diego County.

Here are some key benefits of the program:

Help Your Neighbors:  By participating, you directly contribute to providing nutritious food to seniors in need across San Diego County.

Volunteer Opportunities:  If you’re looking for a fulfilling way to give back to the community, Senior Gleaners offers volunteer opportunities for all ages.  Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or just looking to lend a hand, there’s a role for you!

Promote Sustainability:  Gleaning helps reduce food waste by ensuring that excess produce doesn’t go to waste but instead supports those who need it most.

Learning and Engagement:  Senior Gleaners also educates local residents about gardening, healthy eating, and reducing food waste.
