Celebrating 40+ Years as Summerfield Resident

To kick off our Summerfield Scoops, we are proud to celebrate and honor our residents who have been part of this community for more than 40 years. Jerry and Karen Georgens have relished living in Summerfield for 49 and 41 years. Jerry was an original homeowner on Cedar Tree Way in 1974 and passed away in 2023.

Karen arrived in 1984. Jerry was drawn to Summerfield’s unique, insular square-block design conducive to being neighborly. Upon retirement, he became Architectural Chair and then Special Projects Chair. He and Karen also were the Welcoming Committee for new homeowners to answer questions about our HOA guidelines.  Through these connections, they gained life-long friendships.

Summerfield in the early days was a wonderland (and still is) for children. They created their own entertainment outdoors. They spent long hours at the pool, caught tadpoles and crawdads in the creek, played games in the grassy areas, hiked the trails, and explored the vast open fields north of Espola to catch snakes and horned toads.

The big event of the year was the 4th of July block party on Cedar Tree Way. The  street was legally blocked off for the entire day. A committee collected money to fund prizes, a keg of beer, ice and supplies. Barbeque grills lined the street and tables were set up for all the pot luck dishes. Children competed in hot wheels races, 3-legged races, balloon toss, and volleyball. It was Summerfield’s version of an old-fashioned fourth of July.

The Georgens have remained young at heart seeing generations of children grow up and even some return to raise their children in the best neighborhood in Poway!

New E-Bike Regulations in Poway

Poway has introduced new e-bike safety rules to help keep everyone safe. Children under 12 may not ride e-bikes in Poway, and all riders under 18 must wear a helmet. Riders under 18 are also not allowed to carry passengers. Speed limits now apply depending on where you ride, up to 28 mph on roads, 20 mph on bike paths, and 10 mph or less on sidewalks (5 mph in school zones when children are present). If your child rides an e-bike to school, please check your school’s requirements, as many campuses now require a safety course and parking sticker. Thank you for reviewing these rules with your child to support safe riding in our community. Click for More Information on City of Poway Website

Volunteers Needed – Architectural Committee Vacancy

We’re currently seeking new volunteers to join our Summerfield Architectural Committee.  If you are a homeowner or renter in Summerfield and care about maintaining the beauty and harmony of our neighborhood, we’d love to have you on the team!

Being on the committee typically requires just 1 to 2 hours of your time per month. It’s a great way to connect with neighbors and contribute to keeping our community looking its best.
If you are interested or have any questions, please reach out Denise Shields (Summerfield Architectural Committee Chair/VP HOA) at summerfieldpoway.arch@gmail.com.

Agreement Form for Use of Common Area

Summerfield HOA is a family-friendly community, and our shared spaces are here for everyone to enjoy. If you have an upcoming event and would like to use the Summerfield Community Space, please complete the Agreement Form for Use of Common Area. You can find it on the Summerfield Website under ‘Pool info” and the link is also shown below.  This helps us avoid double bookings and ensures everyone has a fair opportunity to use the space. Thank you for helping keep our community welcoming and organized!

Pool Closure

As summer fades and the crisp air of fall settles in, we want to thank everyone for another wonderful pool season! The pool has been formally closed for the season as of Monday, October 27, 2025. During the off-season, we’ll be completing some much-needed maintenance and improvements to ensure everything is in top shape for next year. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to welcoming everyone back when the pool reopens in April 2026. Stay warm and enjoy the beautiful fall season!

Doggy Do-Do’s and Don’ts

Summerfield is not only a great neighborhood for families, but also for dogs. We ask all dog owners to please pick up after your dogs.  It is common courtesy and required by the Summerfield CC&Rs. Article VI, Section 8 of the Summerfield CC&Rs states: “Dog owners are required to immediately remove any deposits their dogs might place upon the Common Areas, private Lots, streets, or elsewhere in the Community…”

TIP:  doggie bags are located in 3 areas within the community for residents to use.

According to San Diego County Code section 62.669(a) and California Penal Code Section 597, dogs must be kept on leashes and the person holding the leash must be capable of controlling the dog while in public.

Poway contracts with the Humane Society for animal control, including lost and stray dogs and barking dog complaints.  The number is 760-888-2275. See this web page for more information: Animal-Services
