Pool is Open, but Safety First!
The pool re-opened on Friday, April 4th. Here are just a few reminders.
Safety First!
- The gate to enter the pool area must be kept locked at all times. PLEASE – Help save a life – Do not prop the gate open – If a child wanders in unsupervised, a tragedy could result!
- Similarly, please make sure the bathroom doors are kept closed when not in use and supervise small children in the bathrooms.
- Additionally, don’t forget that glass containers are BANNED in the pool area.
Share the Fun – Not the Germs!
We love our pool – but we want it to be a healthy experience.
- Keep the pool area, the water and the bathrooms clean.
- Stay out of the water if sick.
- Rinse off before getting in the water.
- Don’t foul the water.
- Don’t swallow the water.
- And remember: swimming diapers are only good for a few minutes before they can start to leak.
Pool Party?
Any homeowner wanting to set up a pool party should complete and return the Agreement for Use of Pool/Common Area for Owner Parties (or photos/scans) to [email protected].
It is the homeowner’s responsibility to clean the pool area after the party which includes:
- Removing all food items and trash off of the tables and pool deck.
- Remove all decorations and any tape.
- Put tables and chairs back in place.
- It is also your responsibility to haul your trash home. We keep extra bags available with the trash can so you can leave the trash can ready for the next group.
We operate on the honor system, but if the pool area is not sufficiently cleaned after each party, we will consider requiring a cleaning deposit for all parties.
Please remember when hosting a party at our pool, adequate adult supervision is paramount. We as an association (all Summerfield homeowners) will bear the consequences if there is an accident or injury.
All done? Don’t forget:
- Pick up your trash.
- Make sure the bathrooms are closed.
- Make sure the gate is left closed.
- The pool belongs to all of us – we are all responsible for leaving it in good shape for our next visit and for our neighbors.
Finally:
If a biological contamination accident does happen in the pool, please send an email to [email protected] so we can close the pool and have the water treated.
The pool rules are posted at the pool and on our website We are all responsible for helping to enforce them. For additional details about the pool please check out this LINK .
All of your efforts to keep the pool area enjoyable, clean, and safe are greatly appreciated. Thanks!
We hope everyone has a safe and awesome summer using the pool!
Battling Crabgrass: Tips for a Healthier Lawn
As the warmer months settle in, many of us are starting to notice an unwelcome guest creeping into our lawns – crabgrass. This pesky weed thrives in bare or thinning areas and can quickly take over if left unchecked.
To help keep our neighborhood looking its best, here are a few quick tips for managing crabgrass:
- Mow smart: Keeping your grass a little longer (about 3 inches) shades the soil, making it harder for crabgrqass seeds to sprout.
- Water deeply, not daily: Deep watering encourages strong root growth in your lawn, which helps crowd out weeds.
- Apply a pre-emergent: Early spring is the best time to use a crabgrass preventer, but it’s never too late to get started with post-emergent options.
- Fill in bare spots: Overseed thin areas in the fall or early spring to prevent weeds from moving in.
Maintaining a lush, healthy lawn helps all of us keep our community beautiful. Thanks for doing you part-and feel free to share your lawn care tips with neighbors!
Summerfield Street Smarts
We want to take this opportunity to remind everyone to be extra cautious when exiting the neighborhood at the Summerfield/Espola light. There have been multiple accidents at this intersection over the years. In the past the board has previously been in contact with Poway traffic engineering, but the more residents that raise the issue, the more likely it is to get addressed. You may wish to consider contacting them or a member of the city council or the mayor to raise the issue as you personally see fit.
As for our neighbors who regularly walk around the community, please please please be aware of your surroundings when crossing the streets, especially if wearing earbuds or full face protection.
The speed limit within our neighborhood is 25 MPH, and we have a LOT of kids at play here. We encourage all residents to observe the speed limit and drive with caution at all times. If you see a delivery driver speeding, it may be more effective to get the vehicle number and call that delivery company and report any concerns.
We have a number of small motor bikes in the neighborhood – please make sure to operate these vehicles in a safe and legal fashion! Please consult the DMV website on electric bikes, and the following links may also be helpful: People for Bikes and Bike Coalition SD County.
Reminder: Submit Application Prior to Architectural Improvement Project
Our Architectural Standards require that public facing exterior updates (roofs, paint, relandscaping, mailboxes, additions, solar, etc.) MUST be pre-approved. Submit an application for each architectural project (Policies & Forms) prior to any work done to your home. As an example, a simultaneous solar project and a landscape project needs 2 separate applications submitted. The Architectural Committee will review them as they come in. We know homeowners are excited to start their improvements right away. Depending on their varying schedules the Committee is dedicated to reviewing applications within a few days of submission.
Please note that the entire Committee is endeavoring to work collaboratively with all homeowners to arrive at the best possible solution that helps to keep the entire community looking good (and protect our property values!). Send completed application forms to [email protected]
