The Pool is Open for 2023 – AND – Pool Area Cleaning Help Wanted!

The pool is now open and ready for the 2023 season. Remember that we have a *passive* solar heating system – it will begin to warm up the pool but it will still be chilly for a while.

AND

We need some housekeeping (poolkeeping? janitorial?) help!

Pool Area Cleaning Help Wanted

We are seeking a new person (the last person doing it moved!) to take responsibility for janitorial type cleaning and resupplying the pool area and bathrooms and putting out the trash during the pool season. This is a paid time commitment $20/hour for approximately an hour twice a week, and occasional extra cleanings as required after parties, etc.   Please email ASAP to [email protected] if interested.  This could be a good opportunity for one of our younger community members!

Usual duties include:

  • Sweeping bathrooms and under the tree.
  • Mopping (couple times a year or as needed).
  • Cleaning toilets, sinks, dispensers, water fountain, rails into pool, tables and sweeping chairs.
  • Refilling dispensers.
  • Taking the trash to the Edco bin.
  • Take Edco bin to and from curb weekly.
  • Buying paper towels, toilet paper, soap, toilet cleaner any other cleaner needed.
  • Occasionally scraping up gum and cup cakes from pool deck.
  • Clean up left over pool toys.

Don’t forget our pool rules

Pool closed during structure maintenance June 8 and 9

Please be advised that the termite and other wood damage to the pool pump room/restrooms/pergola will be repaired during the day on June 8 and 9.

The gate may be open at times while the crew is working – PLEASE BE CAREFUL THAT SMALL CHILDREN DO NOT WANDER INTO THE POOL AREA!

The pool will be closed while the crew is present to help avoid potential safety issues – but since we cannot lock the gate, we request everyone take note and stay safe!

After a two year break, please plan to join us for our annual review, updating everyone on our association activities, expenses and the planned budget, the status of board membership (see call for candidates below), and an open forum for questions.

Thursday, May 26 at 6:30 p.m.

Pool is Updated and Open!

The pool reopened on April 1 (see the earlier announcement here.) The pool had quite a lot of maintenance over the winter break:

  • most notable is the quartz finish replastering!
  • extensive repairs to one of the skimmers that was leaking,
  • new special order handrails to meet code
  • pool room equipment upgrades, including a prefilter to catch hair and such and a cyclone filter that should catch silt type debris down to 30 microns; as well as an inline cholorinator that should help with water clarity

Additionally, we are now making plans for repairs to some of the pergola posts (darn those pesky termites!)
And a big thank you to Bob McCleary for his assistance with this major project!
We hope everyone has a safe an enjoyable summer using the pool!

Call for Candidates

Two of the current SHOA board positions are at the end of their terms. Would anyone be interested in serving?

The Summerfield Home Owners Association takes care of  paying the common area utility bills, maintaining the pool, the walkways, and helping to maintain our community standards and values. And for that, we need a functioning board – and for that, we need folks to step up to help the community. Please ask yourself if you’d be willing to pitch in to help keep Summerfield the great neighborhood that we all enjoy.

No later than April 25, please email to [email protected] if you are interested.

Doggy on leash… Doggy do-do…

Summerfield is not only a great neighborhood for families, but also for dogs.

  • We ask all dog owners to please pick up after your dogs. It is common courtesy and required by the Summerfield CC&Rs. Article VI, Section 8 of the Summerfield CC&Rs states: “Dog owners are required to immediately remove any deposits their dogs might place upon the Common Areas, private Lots, streets, or elsewhere in the Community…”
  • And according to San Diego County Code section 62.669(a) and California Penal Code Section 597, dogs must be kept on leashes and the person holding the leash must be capable of controlling the dog while in public.
  • Poway contracts with the Humane Society for animal control, including lost and stray dogs and barking dog complaints. The number is 760-888-2275. See this web page for more information: http://poway.org/798/Animal-Services
  • For more information, see https://www.sddac.com/content/sdc/das/license-laws/laws.html

Thank you for keeping Summerfield safe and clean not just for us humans but for our canine friends, too!

Spring time – Weed time

We are having lots of rain recently – and that greened our yards (but also our weeds….) Don’t forget that we all need to work within our architectural standards:

Yards must be maintained, watered, planted and replanted to prevent erosion and present a healthy and trimmed appearance (no more than 20% of lawn area dry or dying). Weeds must be kept under control in all areas of lawns and landscaping. Weeds in the sidewalks or driveways must be removed or eradicated.

Please note that early in the year is the time to apply pre-emergent weed treatments to lawns. But if they have already come up, please get them out before they spread all over your yard (and spread to all your neighbors’ yards…) Thanks!

If you have any question about landscaping – please email or call! Thanks!

Trash Bins

Please don’t forget our Architectural Standards requirement for trash bins: Placement of trash containers/bags in front of a dwelling is restricted to a twenty-four hour period surrounding a scheduled pick-up. After pick-up, empty containers should be stored in the garage or behind the fence out of sight of passers-by on the street.

The Pool is Open for 2022!

It has been a bit chilly, so the pool may take a bit to warm up some more – but the newly resurfaced pool is open for use!

Don’t forget our pool rules:

Can you help keep our neighborhood looking great?

Most of you know that Summerfield benefits greatly from the efforts of our Architectural Committee.  Their work makes a major contribution to sustaining the beauty of and high demand for homes in our neighborhood.

Several members of the Architectural committee have recently moved, so we want to put out the word that we need new members for the committee.

We are looking for someone who will take the maintenance of our architectural standards seriously while keeping an open mind when disputes arise.   We are looking for someone who appreciates the work of this committee in preserving Summerfield’s attractiveness and home values.

The time commitment is minimal (the work is divided between the committee members).  Won’t you consider volunteering? Please email to [email protected].

Thanks!

P.S. – Don’t forget to put the trash bins away after each trash day!  The committee (and everyone else) thanks you!

2021 Pool Closing EARLY for the Season

The pool will be closed early this year, October 18, for resurfacing! The water filtration system is being updated as well!

We look forward to a sparkly new pool next season.

More info to be published soon!

While the crew is working, please – stay clear of the area and make sure children are supervised! We would not want any accidents to happen!

Parents – Have you seen these signs?

Friends, we want everyone to be safe and have fun at the Summerfield pool. It is an important part of our community, and one that we want to be used safely by all. However, it is a SHARED resource – and that means there are some rules that we need to observe, some of which come from the state.

It is in EVERYONE’S best interest to make sure that EVERYONE is aware of and abides by these rules to maximize our safe fun and enjoyment. Please raise awareness and refer to them as needed!  (Don’t forget – If you are renting your home out – you must make sure the tenants are aware of all the community rules. See https://summerfieldpoway.com/new-to-the-neighborhood/)

Remember – children under 14 MUST be supervised (see below.)

And here is a text version, for ease of reading:

Children, under age 14, must be supervised by an attending parent or an adult that has assumed that responsibility. The supervising adult must be at least 18 years old. There is no lifeguard on duty! No diving.

  1. Pool hours are from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm
  2. The gate to enter the pool area must be kept locked at all times. Do not grant access to people without keys. This pool is for the use of Summerfield residents and their guests. All others are trespassing and should be reported to the Sheriff at the non-emergency dispatch # 858-565-5200, and also to the HOA board (see #10 below).
  3. No profanity, running or unsafe conduct will be permitted.
  4. No pets, motorcycles, bicycles, skateboards, frisbees, skates or rollerblades are allowed in the pool area.
  5. No gum, glass objects, or smoking allowed in the pool area. Beverages and food are allowed in the pool area, but not in the pool. Please use trash receptacles.
  6. Clean up and haul trash home after parties.
  7. Hardballs such as tennis balls or smash balls are not permitted.
  8. Parents are responsible for their children. Damage to the pool area by residents, their children or their guests will be paid for by the residents.
  9. All babies and young children who wear diapers must wear a diaper designed for swimming protection.
  10. Report pool maintenance issues to [email protected] or call a board member; current numbers are listed on SummerfieldPoway.com.
  11. Any infraction of these rules is cause for immediate dismissal from the pool.
  12. Every homeowner has the right to enforce these rules and is encouraged to do so.

2021 Annual Update Presentation Posted

Dear Summerfield Homeowners,

As was indicated in a recent letter sent to all Summerfield Homeowners,  we have published this year’s version of the slide presentation which is usually presented at the annual SHOA meeting held each year in May. We are not holding the public meeting this year due to legal restrictions associated with the Covid-19 virus.

Link to presentation on the website: 2021 SHOA Annual Presentation
Link to copy of the annual letter: 2021 SHOA Letter

An important point to make at this time:
Once again, annual dues will not change this year. The amount is $320 per household. Invoices will be sent in the month of June. Please expect that there will be a dues increase next year.

If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact the board via email at [email protected].

Thank you,

The Summerfield Homeowners Association Board

Psst! The Pool Is Open for 2021!

If you haven’t already noticed, the Summerfield Pool is opened April 1!

Please note that we want to continue to stay in compliance with the county’s requirements (since they license us to operate the pool!)

The following are notable rules from our original reopening plan we all need to observe:

  • Use First-In, First-Out (FIFO) approach when the pool appears to be nearing the recommended maximum capacity (15 in the pool, 30 on the pool deck.)
  • Maintain a minimum of 6 feet between persons not from the same household.
  • Avoid entering the pool facility if you have a cough or fever.
  • Wear face coverings when not in the pool.
  • Do not engage in unnecessary physical contact.
  • Use personal chairs and tables in lieu of HOA-owned equipment
  • Clean/disinfect restrooms after each use. EPA-approved cleaning supplies are provided.
  • Bring your own water in non-glass containers. Do not use the water fountain.
  • Do not use the pool area for large gatherings.

Additionally, remember that we can help prevent build up of ‘ring around the pool’ when sunscreen is allowed to completely dry before entering the pool. Stay clean to keep the water clean!
